For the price, I was not expecting paper shades to "block out all light" as the description claims. These are not true black out shades, but behind fairly heavy curtains they perform well. It keeps the room significantly darker and allows us to sleep during the day when we have to, or want to.
If you are aiming for full & total darkness, I suggest doubling the shades before hanging them. Take 2 shades that you already cut to size, line up the pleats so they're flush to each other and adhere the top shade to the shade beneath it with the adhesive strip. Use about 1-2 inches of double sided tape on both sides of the bottom shade, about every 4 pleats or so, to further "stick" the shades to each other. After the shades are secured to each other, THEN peel off the adhesive backing of the bottom shade and hang. Yes, it's a bit more labor intensive, but if full black out shades are unfriendly to your budget, then this will do the trick.
I recommend cutting them to size with an exceptionally sharp knife, which gives a cleaner & straighter edge than scissors. Just keep scoring through the unfolded blind until you've cut all the way through.
Hanging them is easy if you're careful about it. Let the shade drop down before hanging it so you don't risk the adhesive sticking to one of the pleats. Use a smooth, blunt object as a roller of sorts and moderate pressure to really ensure the adhesive has bonded to the frame.
I don't see the need to bother with the included clips unless you plan on raising & lowering the blinds regularly. For me, it was just as easy to trim off the excess blind from the bottom.

I am really happy with these shades. I used them in my bedrooms to block out light from an overpowering security light on my neighbor's house. I actually used two shades to cover the width with an overlap in the center by sliding the edges of one shade over the other until they were the required width and securing them together with tape. I used thumb tacks to secure them to the top to the windows. They really block the light at night. I just clip them up in the day. They work great.
